Cutting Cancer Out: the story
behind the name.
From artist, Karina Matteson: '“You might not know this about me but I once had cancer. 2020 marked 5 years of being clear which makes me an official survivor. I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer and treatment was equally as aggressive. I did 16 rounds of chemotherapy, 36 rounds of radiation and had multiple surgeries. Three weeks into treatment, I borrowed my dad’s beard trimmers and shaved my own head.
Because it is something I’ve been through, I was humbled and honored to donate this original oil painting to the Careity Foundation. This foundation helps save lives by offering financial aid and care management so that cancer patients can focus on healing. I can’t imagine having to face the overwhelming process of cancer diagnosis and treatment without support from my family and friends. Many people aren’t so lucky. The original oil painting was auctioned and all proceeds from the original sale went to support cancer patients through Careity. For more information, please visit Careity.org”
